KIU as a regional university specifically; “focused at providing higher education facilities to the people of the Gilgit-Baltistan region. But its location at the junction of world’s greatest mountain ranges including Hindu Kush, Himalaya and Karakoram makes it unique not only in Pakistan but worldwide. At KIU, we are striving hard to develop a focus on natural resources of this unique terrain, which are comprised of glaciers, rivers, pastures, grassland, forests, minerals, wildlife, biodiversity in fauna and flora, mountain agriculture, horticulture and above all the highly dedicated human resources.
We are consistently improving the quality of undergraduate and graduate programs under the faculties of Natural Sciences, Life Sciences and Social Sciences & Humanities. The major focus of these programs is on developing a wholesome personality of its students by enhancing their Knowledge, Skills and Attitude (KSA) on moral values, international standards with national and regional identity. The major priorities of KIU include high quality education, cutting edge
research, initiating Engineering &Technology Education, Improvement and diversification of the existing departments and programs, strengthening of the physical and IT infrastructure, collaboration with national & international partners and making KIU a better place to study, work and live. With the support of our highly qualified & dedicated faculty, well equipped labs and support services, we are sure to achieve these goals Insha Allah.
To provide quality higher education and research at door steps of people of GB, KIU Sub Campuses have been established at Hunza, Ghizer and Diamer districts, where various undergraduate and graduate programs are being offered as per the local needs of the areas. Many more sub campuses are also planned in the remaining districts of the region. The Career Development Centre (CDC) of KIU has been strengthened to provide students supports including services related to counseling, internships, placement and Alumni affairs. The Institute of Professional Development (IPD) is focusing on developing entrepreneurship in the students and connecting them with the various business opportunities. IMARC (Integrated Mountain Area Research Centre) is undertaking research on the problems and challenges specific to the mountain regions including Climate Change, Disaster Management etc.
